Slovakia
is a dynamic country located directly in the center of Europe. It is
Europe's youngest country. Since the peaceful dissolution of Czechoslovakia
on 1 January 1993, the 'Velvet Divorce,' Slovaks are enjoying their own
fully independent state for the first time in history. In addition to
building a new nation, Slovaks are simultaneously building a free-market
economy. The end of Communist rule, and its centralized, state-controlled
economy, occurred as a result of the 1989 Czechoslovak popular revolt
referred to as the 'Velvet Revolution' in which there were no casualties. Slovaks are among the best educated people in the world.
